GETTING HELP

If you are worried or if you find drugs, ask for help. Remember - you, your friends and your family are not alone.

Family Support

There are three Family Support Groups in the Dublin 15 area, where family members of drugs users come together on a regular basis to discuss their common issues.

What is a Family Support Group?
Family Support Groups provide a safe, confidential place, where people can share their experiences, their hopes and fears, in a non-judgemental setting.

Although everyone's story is different, you may find it re-assuring to know that another family is going through a similar experience.

Family Support Groups normally meet face-to-face on a regular basis and new members are always welcome.

The three Family Support Groups in the Dublin 15 area are:

  • Dove Family Support Group (open to all)
  • Mountview/Blakestown Family Support Group (open to all)
  • P2P Family Support Group (open to all)

Support for Fathers
Fathers of drug users can go through many different emotions including fear, anger, frustration and shame. However, because men tend to cope with their emotions differently to women, they can often suffer in silence.

The Fathers of Addicts Support Group in Dublin was set-up by fathers for fathers. They meet on a regular basis in West Dublin, to help eachother deal with the issue of drugs in the home.

Family Support Network for the Island of Ireland.
The Family Support Network includes representatives from various Family Support Groups, individual family members and those working directly with the families of drug users, throughout the island of Ireland.

The Network was set-up by the CityWide Drugs Crisis Campaign in 2000 to highlight the important role of family support work in addressing the drug issue. The Network provides information to families and communities about existing services and it campaigns for improved services.

If you would like to get in touch with any of these Family Support Groups or if you would set up a Family Support Group in your own area, we can help.

Please contact the GBRD on 01 826 2364 or e-mail us at info@gbrd.ie.
